Abstract
The aim of the paper is to analyze the category of the adult learner by locating the adulthood in the university context. The author presents the outcomes of a phenomenological research on the ways in which adulthood is experienced by extramural students. The analysis focuses on two areas: studying as an activity conditioned by the contemporary civilization and the extent to which universities meet students’ expectations. The results indicate that students are not interested in being involved in the academic progress, but rather locate themselves as subjects willing to be well informed.
