Abstract
Reflections on the significance of the work of advisors in career counseling encouraged the author to describe several issues connected with the perception and understanding of their problems. The paper discusses the changing role of counselors who aid people in solving their career problems. The author focuses her attention on the social, political and economical conditions which make the specialists redefine their supporting roles. In particular the author is interested in classifying the problems the councilors face in their work. Two dassifications are suggested. The first applies to the competence of the career advisor, the second refers to the scope of advise offered and the extent to which councilors are aware of the their role as advisors. The author encourages the specialists to respond to numerous ąuestions which may occur on the every day basis. These may ofFer Solutions to various professional problems; e.g. why do I advise? What values are implemented in offering help to people? What are the aims of my work? What can I do to become a better councilor? How can the counseling process be best optimized? How to motivate clients to introduce changes in their lives? Etc. The paper stresses the significance of such ąuestions and encourages career advisors to define their own role as well the scope of their responsibility in their work and perhaps makes them consider improving their ąualifications.
