Abstract
The aim of this article is to characterise the issue of sexual education of adults and to reflect on the potential needs of adults in this area. This rarely discussed in the specialist literature issue requires analysis. It is relevant not only from the perspective of andragogy, but also from the perspective of gerontology, special andragogy, educational gerontology or geragogy. There are several areas in which adults need sexual education, an education that is somewhat different from that addressed to children and adolescents. The first area is the realisation of sexuality education within the family. Parents have two important roles in this field: to educate their children and to support their children’s sexual development. The research shows that parents often do not take up these roles due to lack of knowledge and misconceptions about children’s sexuality. The second area relates to the personal area – here, education (as well as psychoeducation) can help to improve quality of life and sexual health, relations, and relationships and to deal with and solve problems in a person’s sexual life. The third area is the education of professionals in the field of upbringing (pedagogues, teachers, educators) in supporting children and adolescents who reveal problems regarding their sexuality.
